Awakening

In 1998, what started as a horrific back injury became a blessing. Little did I know that when I tried yoga as a means of relieving the chronic pain I was suffering, that I would experience a life-changing transformation - a transformation that would not only relieve my back pain, but also a host of other conditions from anxiety to chronic fatigue syndrome. More importantly, it would lead me to a new career. I knew I had to share what I had discovered.

Philosophy

My personal philosophy regarding yoga is embodied in this quote by Martin Luther: ‘If you can’t laugh in heaven, I don’t want to be there.’ Health and happiness go hand in hand. Fitness should be fun. Your practice should be something that you look forward to, not something just to get over with. Proper form and technique are essential, but enjoyment, too. I encourage students to look at it as a celebration … interesting, challenging and inspiring with a bit of devotion mixed to complete the Mind · Body · Spirit connection.

Gratitude

I am deeply indebted to my teachers, most especially Kathleen Pringle, but also other members of the Iyengar community, including Steve Jacobson, Nancy Mau, Patricia Walden, Joan White, Manouso Manos, Rajiv Chonchani, and many others.

And, of course, a teacher without students is meaningless.

I offer my sincere gratitude to all of you, who have supported and honored me by choosing me as your teacher. Thank you.

Namaste,

Mark
