Mark S. Bodnar
Iyengar Certified Yoga Instructor

Testimony

I was often encouraged to participate with my wife in yoga. You know the drill: it will help you feel better, your golf game will improve, and maybe you will avoid injuries as you get older.

I did not believe I had the time or desire until I hurt my back with a diagnosis of mild lumbar disc herniation. I decided to give it a try - yoga - and now "drink the kool-aid."

I am a physician and Mark Bodnar is a magician when it comes to yoga. He blends humor with his organized instruction, which make his classes a fun learning experience. I have personally benefitted from Mark's private tutoring and also his group classes. My back is better, along with my golf game, and reluctantly I have had to admit to my wife, "I feel better." My wife (a physical therapist) has benefited from Mark's teachings for the past six years and sings his praises as well.

In April, 2008 after 40 years of running competitively and training many miles, my body quit on me. I developed sciatica and had an MRI that showed I had 3 bulging discs and one herniated disc. I was told never to run again and that is hard for someone like me to take.

I had taken yoga, but never had anyone who taught postures that were good for the lower back and understood what I was going through. When I started taking your classes, you made sure that I did not do anything that would create more problems for my sciatica.
I have been going twice a week for a year and now I am running again. Incorporating yoga into my life has made me feel so much better, and this year (2009) I ran the entire Peachtree Road Race without walking. This is a true accomplishment since I have not run six miles straight in the last year due to the sciatica and low back issues.

I owe it all to the terrific yoga classes. My back pain and sciatica are no longer with me and I certainly appreciate the way you use props to help those of us that have back issues.

Thank you for being such an attentive instructor.

I started practicing yoga about three years ago and it changed the way I see, feel and live in my body. It taught me that the journey is more important than achievement. I believe yoga can extend my professional life as a violinist. It already relieved me from some professionally acquired aches and pains. I can not imagine all of it happening without the guidance of Mark, and his ability to give special advise and necessary attention to every student in his class. His great sense of humor makes the most scary looking asanas possible and fun. Mark is wonderful teacher and I hope to learn so much more from him!
